Starfinder is best known as a tabletop RPG, but Epictellers Entertainment has announced that a video game adaptation is in development. Like the tabletop game, the upcoming game, titled Starfinder: Afterlight, will be a sci-fi fantasy RPG and is scheduled to launch in early access in 2026. The studio aims to lean on its story-rich roots and will feature turn-based combat set in the same universe.
A crowdfunding campaign for Starfinder: Afterlight will launch on Kickstarter shortly in preparation for the game’s early access launch via Steam. We only have a few details about funding and development for the game right now, but those interested can register for updates on the Kickstarter launch, wishlist the game on Steam, and follow updates on social media.
In Starfinder: Afterlight, you will assemble a team of misfits and “emotional wrecks” in order to run your spaceship. Your crewmates might be “charmingly questionable”, but they will aid you on your adventure to save the galaxy, and add their own sweet side stories to the overall narrative. The universe at large won’t understand the disaster threatening Pact Worlds, so it’s up to you to sort things out.
This video game adaptation will follow the second edition rules of the TTRPG, which are expected to launch this year. One of the biggest changes in the new edition ruleset is the introduction of more fantasy environments into its sci-fi setting. The press release claims that it will feature, “plenty of intergalactic travel, eccentric creatures, sarcastic megacorporations, and gloriously chaotic quests with messy results.”
CEO and co-founder of developer Epictellers, Ricard Pillosu, wrote, “We’re thrilled to unveil Starfinder: Afterlight in partnership with [Starfinder TTRPG creator] Paizo. This marks the beginning of a journey we want to take alongside Starfinder fans everywhere. We can’t wait to share more about the ragtag crew navigating the Pact Worlds, full of danger and adventure.”
