Publisher Tripwire Presents and developer Arctic Hazard today unveiled a new trailer for turn-based tactics game Norse: Oath of Blood, celebrating International Viking Day by giving us a glimpse at the characters we’ll meet and battle when it releases.
Set in Viking-Age Norway, the title follows Gunnar, a young warrior who seeks vengeance against one Steinarr Far-Spear for murdering his father and usurping the high seat of the jarl. Although there’s a lot of tactical stabbing to do, his quest involves far more than just bloodshed.
Norse: Oath of Blood International Viking Day Trailer
Gunnar’s path sees him working towards rebuilding his Viking settlement into a veritable stronghold. We’ll assign villagers different roles but also upgrade buildings to add new units to our roster and equipment to our armory.
Norse: Oath of Blood also features a resource management layer, which sees us scavenging the wilds, gathering, and trading with allies to ensure our stocks remain topped up.
Written by bestselling author Giles Kristian, the title’s character-driven narrative harbors impactful choices that influence how other characters treat us. This, in turn, shapes potential alliances as we prepare for the battle against our father’s murderer.
Since vengeance won’t be served by leading a cozy life in our village, we’ll inevitably recruit and train fighters for our warband, customize their gear and abilities, then set off to face Steinarr’s lackeys.
As is often the case with turn-based tactics games, positioning is key. Taking note of potential unit synergies and using our characters’ abilities in the right order and context can also put us ahead of our foes.
Just as importantly, terrain also plays a role in determining the fate of battles, as taking advantage of elevation, flanking our foes, and certain environmental hazards can turn the tide in our favor.
Norse: Oath of Blood is slated to release at some point in 2025, when it arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
