Warlock is the next game coming from Wizards of the Coast set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. Invoke Studios, with talent from the Far Cry and Deus Ex series (among others), is developing. Here’s everything we know about this adventure so far.
The Dungeons & Dragons universe has always been popular, but it comes as no surprise it’s blown up following massive hits like Baldur’s Gate 3 and collaborations with Magic the Gathering and other brands. After a number of failed/middling efforts to develop in-house takes on the iconic fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms, Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are betting harder on bigger studios led by AAA veterans.
We haven’t seen in-engine footage of Warlock yet, but we’re liking how it sounds.
Warlock Release Date
No release date has been set for Warlock yet, but this new Dungeons & Dragons game has a release window (plus the promise of showing off gameplay in 2026).
- Warlock release window: 2027
Warlock Story
Little is known about Warlock’s story at this point beyond the basic premise, which introduces Kaatri, “a veteran warrior who makes a pact to wield otherworldly magic against dark powers.” So our protagonist appears to be using darkness to combat an even greater darkness. We know how such pacts worked out for other iconic main characters like Kratos, so we expect lots of drama ahead.
More will be revealed next year, but for now, we’ve also been told Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica, Lucifer) is playing the character, full performance capture included.
Warlock Gameplay
Though specifics haven’t been shared yet, it’s been revealed that Warlock is a third-person action-adventure game set in an open world. RPG mechanics and systems haven’t been mentioned, but expect some sort of progression regardless, as the press release states “powerful, otherworldly magic” will be unlocked as Kaatri becomes more powerful. But such powers “come at a cost.” We weren’t expecting any less from what’s ultimately a ‘warlock simulator’ of sorts.
“Additional details, including the gameplay debut, will be revealed in summer 2026.”
Warlock Price and Platforms
Since Warlock won’t be launching until 2027, no price tag has been set yet, but it seems we’re looking at a major AAA game, so set your expectations accordingly.
What we do know is this Dungeons & Dragons adventure will cast a spell on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S when it finally releases.
Warlock Trailers
Only one cinematic teaser trailer has been released for Warlock so far. It dropped during The Game Awards 2025, and it’s more of a mood setter introducing the gloomy setting and the game’s warrior protagonist. Watch it here:
