As Subnautica 2 emerges into Early Access on PC and Xbox to a tidal wave of success, GameWatcher looks to the future to see when the seafaring survival sequel will dock on Nintendo Switch 2.
Few survival games have been as hotly anticipated as Subnautica 2. The original game has become a cornerstone of the sub-genre, and despite legal wrangles with the first game’s publisher, developer Unknown Worlds has finally been able to launch Subnautica 2 in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X/S, where it sold millions of copies in a matter of hours and found players largely positive about their initial experience.
Now begins the road to a full launch, and given the previous game’s success on consoles, those not on PC or Xbox will be awaiting Subnautica 2’s full release. Nintendo Switch players certainly will be keen to have more portable aquatic action, but when will that be?
Subnautica 2 Nintendo Switch Release Date Status
So as noted, PS5 and Nintendo Switch were not part of Subnautica 2’s Early Access launch on May 14, 2026, but surely there will be versions after the 1.0 release, right?
Well, at present, the developer isn’t fully committing to that, stating that it ’’ has indicated those platforms may be considered after the v1.0 full release.’’
The 1.0 version is estimated to get a 2027-2028 release. So it’ll be a while before we know for sure.
The staggering early success will certainly help matters. Check back with GameWatcher at a later date for confirmation of a Subnautica 2 Nintendo Switch release.
