Design director Matthew Hooper of id Software has sent down a message from high Olympus to mere mortals to discredit those alleged leaked images from Doom 4 - which isn't cancelled. The studio is still feverishly working on a new hell for us to blast through. When they "officially show things, you'll see awesome." Fans "will be happy" with the game.
One of the pioneers of first person shooters, John Romero, has let slip that he may start work on a retro-styled shooter. Romero worked on such titles as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom II and Quake.
Will Wright, creator of all things Sim, doesn't see the home console as a species of platform going extinct but it will be losing its prominent position in the market as time goes on. There'll still be "dedicated game machines" sitting next to your TV it's just that there are a lot more playing games today and not on those devices. Games can now "fill the empty slots".
Bethesda Softworks has announced the DOOM 3 BFG Edition will be in Fall 2012, which will include DOOM 3 and the Resurrection of Evil expansion. The game will be fully remastered, and will also include The Lost Mission which adds seven hours of new content.

The October 2011 release of Rage has been followed by a whole lot of silence from id Software and Bethesda over what lies ahead, if anything, for the post-apoco shooter. Pete Hines says it's not atop the agenda right now but they're "looking at doing some things" with it; its future is "still TBD." When gamers talk of id the "first thing" mentioned is Doom 4.
Bethesda has announced that DOOM 3: BFG Edition, the next-gen update of the original DOOM 3, will be launched in North America on the 16th October and the 19th October worldwide. The BFG Edition will feature a higher resolution re-master of DOOM 3 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The BFG Edition will also include the expansion released for DOOM 3, "The Resurrection of Evil", as well as seven new levels called "The Lost Mission".
At an interview at QuakeCon 2012, id co-founder John Carmack stated that Doom 4 has no set release date, that it'll get a release date when the developer is ready to release it. Essentially, "done when it's done."
Hawken, the free-to-play mech first person shooter, will be one of the first games to support the Oculus Rift virtual reality glasses, which will be shipped with the dev kits in December. The game will also be a pack-in alongside DOOM 3 BFG Edition for when the headset is released to stores.
Sony has announced that it would start releasing new AAA titles on PlayStation Network to complement retail sales. Some of the eight titles will be discounted for PSN Plus members on pre-order.
The re-release of id Software's DOOM 3 is now out in US retailers. The BFG Edition comes packed with higher definition visuals, better more horrifying sounds, checkpoint saves and 3D support. Also included is the Resurrection of Evil expansion as well as a new singleplayer add-on The Lost Mission. The original DOOM and DOOM 2 also feature. Flashlights are now gun friendly.
Bethesda is warning gamers not to install the Xbox 360 version of Doom 3 BFG Edition to the hard drive. Not only will it not improve performance, but it'll lock players out of the classic Doom titles included with the game.
FIFA 13 has strolled to yet another number one in the UK chart. Skylanders Giants have arrived second, with Dishonored dropping down to third in its second week. Doom 3: BFG Edition entered the chart fifth, and 007 Legends landed at 12th.

Sony has announced the releases for this week for the PlayStation 3, and one of the more intriguing entries is Doom Classic Collection, which is casually and briefly mentioned in the PlayStation Network releases. Nothing is known about it save it's Doom and apparently a collection of Doom titles, which already grace Xbox Live Arcade.
Sony in its PlayStation Store content for this week, revealed a product called DOOM Classic Collection as one of the new releases. Bethesda has revealed in its official blog just what that bundle contains.

Ubisoft has announced the second downloadable content pack for Trials Evolution which will celebrate the Mayan Apocalypse. The DLC is called the Riders of Doom pack and will be released in December for 400 Microsoft Points.
As previously announced, the new major downloadable content pack for Trials Evolution, Riders of Doom, is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace.
