Activision and Treyarch have official announced Call of Duty: World at War, with new details included in the official press release. We can now confirm that Co-op will be enabled and a flamethrower will also be featured in World at War.

In a conference call with investors this week, Bobby Kotick, CEO for Activision, announced that Infinity Ward will be the developer for the recently announced Call of Duty 6. Senior Producer Noah Heller for Treyarch told CVG that it's possible to see more Call of Duty games set during World War II. While Heller felt gratified to be able to be closing a story with the World at War release he added, "I can't say that there won't ever be a WWII Call of Duty game again, but we're glad we were able to end the war and we're glad we're going to support the title with lots of downloadable content."

Activision has announced on the official videogame website that the beta for the latest Call of Duty has now gone live on PC. There's still a chance for fans to get in the beta programme but you'll need to pre-order COD: World At War with GAME (UK) or GameStation (US) to be handed a key.

Activision and Treyarch have finally announced official details of the upcoming Map Pack for the WWII shooter revealing 4 new maps. Releasing for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC the downloadable content adds new action on the street, in the jungle, underground and in a Zombie Asylum. No pricing yet on Map Pack 1.
During a fourth quarter earnings call last night, Activision revealed that the next Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, will be released in Q4 2009. Infinity Ward will be developing it, although no other details have been revealed about it yet. Hopefully we will find out more soon.
Infinity Ward's Rob Bowling's has confirmed today that Call of Duty 4 is going to get another double XP weekend, starting on the 27th February for both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 has done so darn well that Activision looks happy to have Modern Warfare stand on its own this time around. The publisher seems intent to give it the full spin-off treatment, which is unsurprising given the 12m copies sold of the first. Modern Warfare "has become our focus now" says Activision.
