Mass Effect 3 is the culmination of the entire trilogy, according to BioWare Edmonton general manager Aaryn Flynn, to such a degree that everything that happened before is just a "preamble" to the third game.

Gamers who managed to score an invite to the Fall Dashboard Update Preview Beta got an added bonus, albeit by accident - they got the option to download the beta for Mass Effect 3 as well, which contained a large portion of the single player game. Those who checked it out found another surprise: when selecting the single player campaign, they were given a choice of three kinds of campaigns: Action, Story and RPG.
A beta for Mass Effect 3 accidentally became available over Xbox Live, and so someone has naturally been sure to grab a load of gameplay footage for the Internet to sit back and enjoy. Obviously it contains some big spoilers and is best avoided if you've been keeping yourself under a narrative-free rock until it releases. The gameplay footage is rough and unpolished.
Some internal story files for Mass Effect 3 were reportedly leaked, and posted on NeoGAF. Despite BioWare's Jesse Houston stating some of those files contained dated information, Electronic Arts and BioWare sent a cease-and-desist order to the gamer forum. NeoGAF has complied with the order.
BioWare had an internal question and answer session with BioWare producer Jesse Houston regarding the Galaxy at War mechanic and how it interacted with co-op multiplayer in their upcoming science fiction epic Mass Effect 3. Basically, the climax of the game is determined by the "Galactic Readiness level", which is affected via several factors. What Galaxy at War does is give players alternate methods of saving the galaxy from the Reapers, raising the "Galactic Readiness level" through a few options.
Thanks to the recent script leak, BioWare may be changing parts of Mass Effect 3. The leak was discussed by Muzyka and fellow BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk at a lecture at BAFTA in London. The developers were unsure if the high-profile leak of the game would generate extra interest in Mass Effect 3. "In the big picture, some more stories are generated around it and more interest in the game. We're really proud with how it's shaping up. It's going to be the best Mass Effect yet. It's hard to say something like that having a positive benefit, but if it gets more people to check out Mass Effect 3 that would be a positive benefit, and I think they should, because I think it's a great game," stated Muzyka.
Creative director Casey Hudson of Mass Effect 3 reveals there were a lot of stuff they "simply couldn't do, or had to compromise" if they shoehorned multiplayer in the original. They tried again with Mass Effect 2 but again there were "a lot of factors" needing compromise. With Mass Effect 3 though they "adopted a fundamentally different approach" thanks to war.

A series of Citadel missions that were originally intended for Mass Effect 2 will be appearing in Mass Effect 3, said lead writer Mac Walters in an interview with OXM. "There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3, so I'm happy, but I can't say what it is. That's the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance," said Walters.

When a game features multiplayer, the downloadable content tends to skew away from single player content to multiplayer content, with the usual new maps and weapons. BioWare producer Casey Hudson is reassuring gamers that while the DLC for Mass Effect 3 will indeed include some multiplayer DLC, they won't ignore the story rich single player DLC that gamers had enjoyed in the previous two Mass Effects.
