GTA Online is getting a big new update this week, adding a whole bunch of glitzy toys for you to spend your ill-gotten funds on. Which is fitting, because the update in question is called Ill-Gotten Gains Part One. Most of the new stuff is aimed at rich players, and is available via the various luxury in-game shops. It includes new cars with gaudy custom paintjobs, gold helicopters, a new Combat PDW gun, and “hundreds of new clothing items and accessories”.

Some clever GTA V modders have managed to make quite a breakthrough, finally figuring out a way to add their own custom maps to the game. Previously the modding community had been restricted to using only assets found in the core game. Should you happen to possess any coding skills yourself, you might want to check out modder NTAuthority's lengthy post over on GTAForums.com, which explains how to add custom maps to the game.
In the latest Take-Two fiscal report the publisher has revealed they've "sold-in nearly 52 million" units of Grand Theft Auto V across PC and consoles. These are figures of units sold directly to retailers, not to gamers. Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve has meanwhile "sold-in approximately 2.5 million" units. CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick said GTA V's PC launch "exceeded our expectations."
Rockstar recently held an Asked and Answered session on its Newswire page, and inevitably the thorny issue of modding in GTA V was raised. Specifically, the studio was asked to clarify its stance on the use of mods in both online and offline modes. I'll post the full statement, because it's the first time we've heard any concrete clarification from Rockstar on the subject.
Rockstar has put out their latest patch for Grand Theft Auto V which goes after some irritating Steam-only issues like not being able to alt-tab back in if the overlay was open, or not able to use Mexican Spanish subtitles. Those fiends! They also address some problems with garages and cars in GTA Online, and work on general stability for director mode and video editor. Patch download speeds have improved too, apparently.
It was all so careless and light-hearted. Folks were flinging whales around, disrupting cutscenes and generally making merry havoc in Rockstar's open world crime thriller GTA V, when suddenly things got serious. Several PC GTA Online players are reporting that they've been banned from the game, apparently for using various mods, even those that offer only cosmetic differences. This Reddit user for example posted a screenshot of the moment he was banned, allegedly for using an FOV mod.
Now that Grand Theft Auto V is in the hands of nosey PC gamers a huge industry of mods has exploded for the crime sandbox. There are the more usual suspects, like cheats, but then there's what can only be described as 'other'. Have you ever wondered what a giant whale body slamming a city looks like? Well your curiosity can now be sated! Maybe you enjoy triggering instant ragdoll for comic effect? What about music on-the-go?
This is why GTA V is on PC is the best. With the addition of a simple little mod, you can play as a chimp. Or a cat. Or basically any animal included in the game. It's called ScriptHook, and its [urk=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/]Doctor_Dolittle]Doctor Doolittle[/url] options are just the tip of the iceberg. Basically the trainer gives you full control over almost every aspect of the game, from physics to weather effects, to skins and cheats that make every bullet you fire explosive.
Reflection MSAA? Don't bother. Nvidia has launched an extensive "Graphics and Performance Guide" for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V. They cover every graphical configuration and explain exactly what they do in-game. It's worth a read as you'll soon discover a few items on the list don't really need to be cranked all the way up. They also include an art's gallery worth of interactive comparisons between settings. Let the obsession begin!
Rockstar has released Patch 335.1 for the PC version of GTA V, fixing a strange bug that caused users without a copy of Windows Media Player on their system to be unable to install the game. The patch also adds a new video card benchmark test option, and sorts out various other issues with the game and its accompanying video editor mode.
The PC modding community has been busy pulling apart the once secure files of Grand Theft Auto V, and have discovered some material references to horses and the shuffling undead. Technically it does have a zombie already. While the creative juices maybe flowing in the community, so far very little is possible to change in the game. We're not quite there yet adding in the superheroes and piano cars, but we're now a step closer.
Here, VR headsets are a bit old hat, aren't they? What you really need to do to experience true gaming satisfaction, is to strap yourself in to a full-body motion detector like the Virtuix Omni (ignoring the fact that it makes you look like a knock-off Terminator stuck on the production line). Now that you can control your character through your own movements, what better game to choose for your virtual rampage than the recently released PC version of Rockstar's blockbuster crime sim Grand Theft Auto V?
Outside of Valve's own offerings, GTA V is now the most popular game on Steam, pushing ahead of Bethesda's Skyrim less than a week after launching. It peaked yesterday at just over 300,000 concurrent players, only about 130,000 behind perennially popular shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
With the 'ultimate edition' of Grand Theft Auto V now out on PC it's time to get judgemental. We've been playing it as long as everyone else - from midnight on April 13th - and so it's going to take a little while. What we're looking at are the PC exclusive features more than the full game itself, since most know by now how that went down. What can we say right now? It's playing real smooth so far.
I love the idea of creating little nuggets of cinematic genius using GTA V's rather cool video editing mode, but when I actually sit down to use it all the creativity drowns out of me. At best, I end up using it to throw cars at Trevor. Fortunately, there's a whole community of more creative-minded Tarantino wannabes out there, and less than two days after the Rockstar blockbuster's PC launch, we've already got some interesting stuff bubbling to the surface.
The PC launch for Grand Theft Auto V hasn't been plain sailing for some, as a few troublesome hurdles have been discovered. One of the weirder issues is related to Windows usernames, which can stop the game playing entirely. Using any special characters in the username causes the problem, and simply renaming the account isn't enough. The workaround for now is to create an all-new Windows account with simple characters.
That didn't take very long. Grand Theft Auto V is already the second most popular game on Steam, just a few hours since the highly anticipated open world crime game's release. Nestling in just behind Dota 2, which let's face it, is almost impossible to nock off the Steam top spot, GTA V is being played by just under 175,000 users.
Hail the Elder Gods, praise Great Cthulhu – Grand Theft Auto V has finally been released on PC. That means no more glossy trailers, and no more delays. It also, hopefully, means plenty of excellent movies, thanks to the PC exclusive video editing software built into the game. Here's the very first effort, 'Running Man', and it's pretty good.
Presenting the Rockstar Editor – a special feature in Grand Theft Auto V for PC that allows players to record, edit, and share videos created from footage in both Story Mode and GTA Online. Watch today’s video “Introducing the Rockstar Editor” for an overview of just some of the features of this powerful video creation tool including special camera modes, filters, depth of field and audio customization options - as well as the unique Director Mode feature that allows you to stage creative movie-making sequences from a cast of characters ranging from familiar faces from Story Mode, to pedestrians and even animals. You’ll be able to upload your finished masterpiece to YouTube and to the Rockstar Games Social Club to share with friends.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that the very moment April 13th expires, Grand Theft Auto V will be unlocked through Steam and their own download service. That means, technically, that US gamers 'get in early' - but not really. Those in North America can play from today @ 4.00pm PST / 7.00pm EST. Nvidia has also just released their Game Ready drivers for Grand Theft Auto V, which includes SLI profiles and optimisations.
