Funcom has announced in its developer update that the crafting system of free-to-play MMO Age of Conan has been completely revamped. According to the developer, “This is a totally new system. When we sat down and looked at the system and how we could add depth and improve engagement, it became clear that it was better to start over. So rather than try and shoe-horn what we had into something a little more useable, we decided to bite the proverbial bullet and start over.”
Late night sensation Conan O'Brien showed off a few seconds of gameplay of Halo 4 on his late night television show, while meeting with the development team at 343 Industries and giving them some fairly dubious suggestions, as well as doing some voiceover work for them.
There are one million registered users for the beta of The Secret World, reveals Funcom. They say this is proof it's shaping up to be "one of the most highly anticipated" MMOs. Its figures are "significantly higher" than Age of Conan, Funcom's previous MMO. They're "very optimistic" for The Secret World thanks to these figures and the "excellent feedback".

Funcom's restructuring has started to come into effect as Funcom Beijing is to be closed down. The Chinese-based studio team did a lot of art and animation work for The Secret World. Meanwhile the live teams for Funcom MMOs are being rehomed at Raleigh, North Carolina. This moves most live devs from Montreal, which will focus more on unannounced mobile projects.
Age of Conan is celebrating its 5th anniversary with a wave of huge monsters terrorising the MMO world of Hyboria. Beginning tomorrow at 4.00pm CET/10.00am EST there'll be huge boss monsters for five days. Great rewards are teased for those strong enough to take them down. Funcom are also doubling up XP boosts and Bonus Points to spend in-game, and Access Passes to the Khitai region.
Funcom has announced that its free-to-play MMO Age of Conan: Unchained now has a new dungeon in the Dragon's Spine area called "The Coils of Ubah Kan."
The latest investor call from Funcom reveals revenue for Q4 2013 is down from last year's $7.78 million in the same period, to $4.27 million this year. Deferred billings, weaker sales and competition are cited. However their big MMO projects are "relatively stable" with Age of Conan and Anarchy Online their primary revenue. All their MMOs are providing a "cash flow positive".
Recently Funcom has been in a spot of trouble with Norwegian authorities as they were suddenly under investigation for 'financial impropriety' and even got removed from the Oslo Stock Exchange. CEO Ole Schreiner has now spoken out on the matter and said "though it was quite a dramatic event," it was soon over. The police only seized "a handful" of PCs.
