While there’s often been talk of an Until Dawn 2, yet it has become increasingly unlikely with the original game’s developer Supermassive off working on its own series of games based on that choose-your-own-adventure model, and PlayStation seemingly reluctant to dig into much of its back catalogue for new games.
So it was something of a surprise when Until Dawn 2 showed up out of the blue during PlayStation’s State of Play in June 2026.
Developed by Firesprite, Until Dawn 2 swaps the snowy woodlands for a sun-kissed island, but the underlying Until Dawn ethos remains: choices have consequences.
Its sudden appearance leaves lots of questions. Questions such as when the Until Dawn 2 release date is, what platforms it will appear on, and just what is going on this time?

That island retreat may look enticing (apart from the murderous loonies), but it’s a little ways off, as PlayStyation has confirmed the Until Dawn 2 release date is a vague 2027 window at present.
Until Dawn 2 Story
In a brand new story, Until Dawn 2 follows the crew of Dread True, a popular paranormal channel that just so happens to stage its supernatural investigations (shocking, I know).
We join the crew as they create their first professional television episode after signing a network deal. It takes them to an abandoned tropical island where very real dangers await them, and stretches their relationships to breaking point.
Until Dawn 2 Gameplay
Until Dawn 2 will utilise the Butterfly Effect system of the original game, where the story branches depending on player decisions large and small. Any character can die during the story if the player makes certain choices.
The story can change based on actions, interactions between characters, and likely what hints you pick up on ahead of crucial decisions.

So far, Until Dawn 2 is confirmed for release on PS5. There are no prices or pre-order details just yet.
