Ex-Sony man Phil Harrison is utterly convinced that future waves of kids will not be interested in buying physical media, and even some now actually.
He believes the videogames industry will push more toward online digital distribution making discs a thing of the past. Better not tell Pioneer’s new 400GB Blu-ray that.
Speaking to Edge, Atari president Harrison said ”there’s a generation of kids being born today and probably already alive who I’m pretty confident will never buy a physical media product. They will never buy a DVD, they will never buy a CD, and they will never buy a game in a box.”
Atari CEO David Gardner echoed Harrisons predictions and claims that within ”within five years 90 per cent of our products will be online.” It’s certainly no secret that digital distribution is becoming more popular and accepted, but could it topple the physical?
