It’s the ”best golf game” for the ”best golfer” - both of these things ”need to be true” otherwise it doesn’t work, warns EA. They’ll wait it out a bit longer.
”We have no plans to move away from him, but it’s a business relationship on the basis of we make the best golf game and he’s the best golfer,” said EA CEO Riccitiello. ”Both of those things need to be true in the long run for the partnership to make sense.”
”He sort of stuck with us for a very long time and we made great business together,” he added, ”and we’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for a period of time.” The trouble of course came from all the media attention surrounding the golfer’s affair.
It went so far that an episode of South Park included the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 videogame parodied as a brawler between Tiger Woods and his wife, with the South Park boys then bored when the game actually gets to just being about golf.
Tiger Woods needs to start being all about besting the sport of golf again as otherwise EA will look elsewhere. Analyst Doug Creutz believes it may already be too late: ”Woods’ scandal woes may have permanently damaged the sales potential of what we believe to be EA’s third most important sports franchise, behind Madden and FIFA.”
