After a superlative 2010 which saw sales increasing 41% from year-to-year and a risky new hardware platform selling better than initial estimates, Microsoft states that the company has its eyes on 2011, and has some unannounced surprises coming in 2011. Xbox Group Product Manager David Dennis told IGN that the company isn’t resting on its laurels.
While it’s well known that the Xbox 360 has some of its heavy hitters coming in 2011 like Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4, they have promised that those aren’t the only exclusives coming.
Dennis states, ”We have other games in the pipeline, Kinect games, non-Kinect games, core and casual games, and other third-party titles. We’ve also got some tricks up our sleeve that we haven’t announced on the Xbox Live front as well. I think we certainly feel like we have the setup for great, continued momentum.”
On the Kinect front, some of the more intriguing hardcore Kinect titles will be released from Japanese developers - the most promising of which is Panzer Dragoon Orta developer Yukio Futatsugi’s spiritual successor
Project Draco. Also on the hardcore Kinect front is
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor and Grasshopper Manufacture and Suda 51’s
Codename D, which appears to be the Kinect’s answer to
No More Heroes.
Dennis is cagey about revealing future titles, but it’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft follows up 2010, their most successful videogaming year ever.
