Ubi: Next year "15-20%" of console games 3D, "at least 50%" 2012

Publisher Ubisoft is betting hard on 3D enabled games to explode in number by 2012, with around 50 percent of all new titles being in 3D.

We can expect ”substantial growth” in the 3D space, thanks to all that extra immersion. Nintendo unveil their glasses-free 3DS at E3.

”We will see more and more product coming in 3D on 360 and PS3 but also on portable machines,” said Ubi during their latest investor call, reports CVG.

”We can count on substantial grown in the 3D market just because it’s more immersive, so it will be a good way for the industry to give even more emotion to the gamers,” they continued. Sony recently updated PS3 firmware to enable 3D support.

This E3 Nintendo will unveil their latest portable platform, the 3DS, which allows 3D games to play without the need for 3D specs to be worn. Microsoft has also entered into partnership with manufacturer LG in South Korea to promote their 3D TV line.

There’s no denying it - 3D is set to return and invade your home. ”I think next year we should see maybe 15-20% of games will be 3D on next-gen consoles … and the following year will be at least 50% of the games.” Will Ubisoft’s prediction hold true?
