Moore: Sports titles "often misguidedly slighted" for

EA Sports boss Peter Moore is defending the sports genre by saying it’s often criticised for a ”lack of creativity.” There is only so much they can do after all.

Moore also dismisses the notion that ‘boxing is dead’ by chest thumping Fight Night Champion, and urges ”all of the “‘haters’” to give it a try.

Sports games are often misguidedly slighted for a lack of creativity. Uneducated gamers will “cry, “You just update the rosters”,” blogged Peter Moore. ”No doubt you’ve heard me vigorously defend the amount of innovation that our Tiburon and EAC studios deliver in our annual titles.”

”For all of the “haters” of the Sports genre, I urge you to check out Fight Night Champion to experience the amount of creativity and innovation we’re delivering with this game when it launches on March 1.” Moore admits boxing is ”challenged by declining interest”.

Also a ”lack of bona fide superstars” is failing to draw the spotlight on the sport, which is mostly going now to the rise of mixed martial arts. ”…the sport of boxing clearly is not the cultural fixture it once was. But, let me be clear, boxing’s not dead,” said Moore.

The recent film The Fighter has helped relight that spark, ”the latest in a long line of powerful boxing movies, it is clear that if there is one sport that’s rich with tales of adversity and rags to riches (and sometimes back to rags again), it’s boxing.”

”It’s also clear that the sport is experiencing a resurgence - with “The Fighter” earning rave reviews, with F/X heavily promoting its upcoming new series “Lights Out”, and with recent news that Eminem will be starring in a new Dreamworks boxing movie called ‘Southpaw’.”

”This is the right time to reinvent Fight Night and capture the imagination of a worldwide audience for this great sport,” added the EA Sports big cheese. Fight Night Champion releases on Xbox 360 and PS3 March 1st. See the trailer below.
