DICE’s Johan Andersson argues all gameplay features of Battlefield 3 like ”lots of players, great effects, destruction, vehicles” are ”more important than 1080p.”
The studio started answering fan questions via twitter after the US chat show episode aired with Battlefield 3. ”We think huge levels, lots of players, great effects, destruction, vehicles & varied gameplay are more important than 1080p,” said Johan Andersson.
”How is that a shame? Name a single FPS game that runs at 1080p on any of the consoles? Would have to do huge gameplay cuts.” Naturally some fans were looking purely at the figures and kicking up a stink.
”…99.9% of PS3 and Xbox 360 games are 720p. and a lot of them, including MW2 is way lower than that”, said Andersson on his twitter account. ”MW2 runs at 1024x600 on PS3 with 2x MSAA. and I didn’t do any digs at COD, just explained our tradeoffs”, he added.
DICE has also promised that the PC crowd will get to enjoy extra horsepower in Battlefield 3 with a higher player count for matches. Battlefield 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 25th in the US, the 28th in Europe.
