The Consumer Products & Services division brought in £8.3 billion in revenue, down 24.4%, resulting in a loss of £710.3 million. LCD TVs sales, PS3 price cuts and marketing hurt Sony.
The floods in Thailand were also too blame for the lack of good fiscal performance as it severely impaired Sony’s manufacturing capacity, and the yen has weakened.
Sony moved 6.5 million PlayStation 3 consoles during Q3, which is 200k more than last time. PSP was down 800k at 2.4 million,. PlayStation 2 continued its decline with just 900k sold compared to the previous postings of 1.2 million and 2.1 million of the same period. PlayStation Vita figures weren’t disclosed.
Software however was up by 13% for PS3 as it managed 6.5 million. PSP didn’t perform well with sales at 11.4 million from the previous year’s 16.5 million. PS2 valiantly tallied 2.5 million which was also down.
Sony’s full fiscal outlook for the 12 months ending March 31st has been downgraded from ¥6.4 trillion from ¥6.5 trillion. Sony Computer Entertainment head Kazuo Hirai has been named the successor to current Sony president and CEO Sir Howard Stringer, who will be stepping down this April.
