If you're still hanging around some of the oldest of the then 'modern' MMORPGs around - Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online; things are about to change for you. Or not. Through a rather sudden announcement on each game's webpage, the development teams have called it a day and left Turbine Studios. But things aren't nearly as bad as they sound.
In a similar but not exactly the same situation, a bunch of 'The Binding of Isaac' players made their own expansion.
But why the sudden abandonment just to come straight back and assure players that development will continue exactly where it left off? Well, Turbine Studios went through a short period of layoffs back in July, and we haven't heard much since. We can only guess the issues at the studio aren't getting much better. They're solely a mobile game developer now. So while nothing should change for those still running around their virtual online worlds. Standing Stone Games - the new subsidiary created under Daybreak Games will handle everything much the same way they did at Turbine Studios.
