Resident Evil 7's 3 Million Copies Goal Bumps Lifetime Franchise Sales To 76 Million

After just two weeks on sale, Resident Evil 7 has managed to shift 3 million copies worldwide. The news comes from a spontaneous press release from Capcom claiming that, through the launch of its newest entry, the Resident Evil franchise has now sold through 76 million units worldwide.

For anyone keeping track, the series has - as of today - sold 1 million more copies than Grand Theft Auto V has sold in 3 years. There's something to be said about the broad appeal of a specific genre, there. As expected with a primarily single-player adventure title, the vast majority of its sales will likely take place over its first few months on sale with Capcom saying the seventh major entry had shipped 2.5 million copies last month alone.

Gleefully selling through its initial shipment, digital sales through Steam are reported to have topped 300,000 units - noticeably less than their console counter-parts.
