Typically known for putting out deep strategy games like Space Colony and the legendary Stronghold franchise, Firefly Studios always had an itch for something more. But the market collapse of 2009 stopped them dead in their tracks. Speaking to GameWatcher about their new Early Access title 'MetaMorph', Firefly Studios' founder Simon Bradberry clued us in to how the massive financial crisis of the last decade spoiled their plans for further games in the dungeon-crawling genre.

And even though MetaMorph certainly isn't their usual strategy outing, that's still going to be their main focus. "We’re always going to be about strategy, but this was an opportunity and felt like a good time to do something in a dungeon crawler vein." He went on to explain; "One of the things we wanted to do with MetaMorph was create something that was very visceral, but strategic at the same time." All in all, it sounds as if Firefly Studios were up for another dungeon-esque game from the moment they finished up on Dungeon Hero. "Since then, we’ve kind of always had an itch to go back to that." It's too bad what killed stores like Woolworths - and almost the UK's only retail store dedicated to gaming 'GAME' - kept Firefly from sticking to its guns.
