It is difficult to overstate the number of rats that are shown on-screen simultaneously in A Plague Tale: Innocence. The sheer volume of moving bodies slithering about in the dark is overwhelming and water-like at times, and then you notice the tiny little eyes blinking at you, and you're done.
Featuring the killing grounds of a massive clash between the French and the English, this latest gameplay trailer focuses on Amicia and Hugo sneaking through the rat-infested battlefield without getting devoured alive. They manage to do so by scavenging for items and using fire to their advantage. Being an adventure game, A Plague Tale: Innocence will seemingly direct its attention to delivering a high-quality cinematic experience with interesting characters, a rich historical background, and nary a hint of something more sinister prowling through the shadows. The gameplay mechanics will rely on players using their wit and contextual clues to figure out how to deal with the situation at hand. This includes but is not limited to finding ways to keep the protagonists enveloped in light, and creative dispatching of enemies. A Plague Tale: Innocence is going to be coming out on PC and consoles sometime in 2019, and in the meantime, watch the trailer below - those swarms of rats truly are a sight to behold.
