As Frontier details its record financial results, it seems to have hinted at a new IP under its Planet series of games.
Frontier has put out a trading update that boasts of higher-than-ever revenue and operating profits thanks to games such as Jurassic World Evolution 3 and Planet Coaster 2, and the future looks bright with Jurassic World Evolution 3 getting a Rebirth expansion and Planet Zoo 2 on the way later this year.
But tucked away in the franchise and development update on Frontier’s games, there’s a mention of a brand new IP in the Planet series. In the update, Frontier writes this under the header of ‘New Planet Franchise’.
Frontier Looking to a New Planet
’’ A new own-IP CMS game is confirmed for FY28, building on the success of the Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster franchises and reinforcing Frontier’s CMS strategy of delivering one CMS title per year and supporting long-term, sustainable growth through high-quality, evergreen game franchises.’’
On the developer’s official Discord channel, it confirmed these plans to members.
So it’s made clear this isn’t another sequel to Planet Zoo or Coaster, so we’re seemingly getting a new park management style.
What will that be? A more expansive take on both, with a resort-style management game? Or something not park-related, like museums or even public services, a la Two Point hospital.
I’d imagine it would keep somewhat close to the other Planet games in being park management, but with several on the go already, there’s not too much wiggle room for something new in that space that doesn’t step on the toes of the others.
