GOG 'reclaim your games' revives S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Gamespy keys, also activating on Steam
The bleak world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has just gotten a tad brighter as GOG.com is resurrecting ye olde Gamespy codes for the apocalyptic shooter, which also seem to be activating on Steam as well. This is part of a wider initiative to dust off old game serial keys and get them revived digitally by GOG, who hope to expand what they can turn into a DRM-free copy. The key issue is whether West Games lied about their members being former developers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R creators GSC Game World.

West Games, a new studio founded by former members of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. creators GSC World and 4A Games, are creating what they describe as "the definitive spiritual successor" to the cult post apocalyptic shooter. Project Areal will be West Games' first title, set in a huge open world filled with a variety of mutated creatures intent on eating your eyeballs for dinner.

The post-apocalyptic survival series S.T.A.L.K.E.R is the latest to survive the GameSpy server shutdowns, with a new Steam patch moving the multiplayer servers for every incarnation of the series over to developers GSC Gameworld's own. If you don't own the games on Steam you can manually download the patch, which affects all editions, on the series' official website.
