GameWatcher summons all the Cenobites you’ll encounter in Boss Team Games’ Hellraiser Revival.
The video game adaptation of the supernatural horror series sees a young man, Aiden, dragged into the world of the Cenobites, extra-dimensional priests with a taste for sadistic torture. Aiden is searching for his girlfriend and must endure the unfathomable terror of these godlike entities.
Each Cenobite encounter in Hellraiser Revival will be unique and reflect their ‘personalities’, if you will. You’ll never be able to defeat them or kill them, but you will find ways to deal with them long enough to escape their sadistic grasp.
There are four main Cenobites that Aiden will meet on his mysterious and brutal journey. All four featured in the original Hellraiser film from author and director Clive Barker. Below, we look at who they are and what they’ll bring to Hellraiser Revival.
Pinhead aka The Hell Priest
The iconic ‘lead’ Cenobite had to be in a Hellraiser game and is once again played by Doug Bradley in Hellraiser Revival.
The pincushioned priest of pain will not show up all that easily, but when he does, this noble, sadistic being will have a level of control over the environment, making Aiden’s chances of escape frustratingly slim.
Chatterer aka The Angel of Suffering
While Pinhead has been the frontman of the franchise, the Chatterer was the Cenobite design that always stood out to me the most. Its name comes from the unnerving clicking of its blood-smeared teeth. It’s not creepy, he’s just trying to have a chat with you!
The Chatterer’s involvement in Hellraiser Revival will see encounters based on sound and speed, as Aiden runs from the pursuing force and endures the agonising sound of those teeth echoing down extra-dimensional hallways.
Butterball aka The Surgeon
Disturbing. That’s the word Hellraiser Revival developer Boss Team Games uses to describe Butterball’s sections in the game.
That’s about all we’ve got in terms of what this sicko’s involvement will be, but given that Butterball is considered the most intelligent member of The Gash and is its head torturer, disturbing isn’t a lightly used descriptor.
Deepthroat aka The Female
The Female mostly appears in the real world and acts as a persuasive force for Aiden to head down a dark path. Whether this means this ethereal entity will not feature in the same gameplay terms as her fellow priests is uncertain, but it does look like she’ll be Aiden, and our closest connection to the Cenobites and unravelling the mystery of why they came into Aiden’s life.
