Sony is casting in the chips as it wants Sackboy as the next "emblematic character for the PS3," reveals SCEA's Mark Valledor in an interview with Adage.
LBP is such a big deal that Sony even plans to stick around a 1,000 "LittleBig billboards" in and around San Francisco, and they don't mind them getting pinched either.
"We want LittleBigPlanet to lead the charge into a new genre of gaming and turn Sackboy into the next emblematic character for the PS3," said Valledor.
"We have coined 2008 'the year of the PS3' and are confident that with the launch of LittleBigPlanet we will continue to see the momentum build throughout the end of this year and on to the next. … This is a very big title for us."
LittleBigPlanet has been cited as exactly what the PlayStation 3 needs to inject success for Sony, if it were to fail the company would be left with LittleHugeEgg on their face.
"A compelling, family-friendly, puzzle-type game that also is quite innovative and gets a big marketing push is exactly the kind of game that can help take this platform to a new level," commented NPD analyst Anita Frazier, who believes it'll shift more of the console too.
