That’s according to analyst Todd Greenwald of Signal Hill Capital Group. There’s a lot of agreeable mumblings from other analysts in the industry too.
Sony’s Howard Stringer is eager to note that a PS3 is ”the best way to buy a Blu-ray player.” With the Blu-ray victory for High Def movies they now have a clearer advantage.
”For the first time since the console launched, I really think there’s more reason to buy a PS3 than the 360,’’ said Signal Hill’s Greenwald.
Every single console sold has a ripple effect on potential revenue and future profits - individual boxed games sold, online services, and royalties from third party developers.
”This battle for second place is quite relevant,” said Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter in Los Angeles. ”They lose revenue stream for years ahead based on what people buy.”
Howard Stringer, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at Sony Corporation, said he’s played with the Nintedno Wii but doesn’t think much of it as a rival. ”I don’t see it as a competitor. It’s more of an expensive niche game device. We’re selling a lot of PlayStation 3s now and it’s still the best way to buy a Blu-ray player.” No return salvo from Nintendo yet, but what about the Wii fans?
