Blizzard are struggling a little to get their message across that each chapter of StarCraft II isn’t just your average expansion, they’re self-contained epic campaigns.
As each releases they’ll add to the sequel experience as a whole like new features and other goodies, and they’ll take as long as is needed to get the job done.
VE3D interviewed one Bob Colayco of Blizzard to find out what the heck is going on with this trilogy talk. ”First of all, the development team had been planning for a long time that StarCraft II would include two expansion sets.”
”From the sense of, “when was it decided that each campaign would focus entirely on a single race and telling one enormously epic story?” then that decision started coming together around the time that the first details of our single-player campaign design were announced at BlizzCon 2007,” answered Colayco.
He goes on to divulge some more specifics on what fans can expect from the first piece of the StarCraft II cake, or pizza. ”The first chapter will deliver the Terran campaign where you take the role of Jim Raynor and lead your mercenary band across the galaxy to exact your revenge on Arcturus Mengsk.”
”You’ll interact with old friends and enemies, like Zeratul and Kerrigan, and meet tons of new characters and their storylines. It’ll come with a fully featured multiplayer game, with all three races playable on a newly renovated edition of Battle.net.”
Colayco touches on the other two but Blizzard isn’t going to get pinned down with a schedule for this and haven’t much of a clue themselves how long it could take between each new chapter.
”We’ll take as long as we need to in order to make each chapter feel just as epic and exciting as the last one.”
