Dan Hill, Home service manager for SCEE, has said that the virtual world of Home will start shifting PS3s as it evolves more and more.
He reveals that Home is "integral" to Sony's PlayStation Network strategy and that no one else "is doing anything of this scale or ambition". Is Home enough to start selling PS3?
"In time I would say that Home will definitely become a reason to purchase" the PS3, Sony's Hill tells CVG. "Today, we are at the beginning of a long journey - now is the time to start its evolution."
One thing's for sure, advertisers will be queuing up to get a slice of the in-game billboard pie and Sony will enjoy the revenue. Given the nature of Home even DIY or furniture stores like IKEA will probably take notice.
Hill's claim that "no-one else is doing anything of this scale or ambition" is likely to draw a more critical eye to this flagship online community they're hoping will flourish.
"The PlayStation Network is getting better all the time," states Hill, "and Home is integral to our online offering. If you buy a PS3 and you grow with us, as Home evolves, you are going to become part of something very special, something unlike you can experience anywhere else."
Will the long awaited Home cover its mortgage repayments as Sony hopes?
