Instead of the more traditional movie tie-in videogame that launches around a film release, Warner are to set loose at least two ‘Watchmen’ game episodes.
The first will be around the theatrical release and the other when the DVD ships. They don’t want a poor quality retail so the episodes will ”deliver the experience that fans expect.”
Varity reports the first will arrive next March when the movie is scheduled for release. The games will cover the next-gen consoles as well as the PC and is being handled by Danish developer Deadline Games.
”We don’t want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail,” said Warner Bros’ Samantha Ryan. ”A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect.”
The action games will feature the films characters Rorschach and Nite Owl. ”The graphics look as good as any traditional PS3 or 360 game sitting on the shelf at retail,” added Ryan in an interview with Variety’s Cut Scene Blog.
”It’s not a 10 or 20 hour retail game. But it’s a solid game experience for what it is and will be priced appropriately.”
