Currently Wii games come with a blue Wi-Fi symbol to show they support online interaction, now a new red ‘Pay and Play’ icon will appear on those planned to include the subscriptions.
Group manager for Nintendo’s Network Administration Group, Takashi Aoyama, said at this year’s GDC that these fees ”will allow us to adapt flexibly.”
It may be difficult now to convince Wii gamers to pay for something they’ve enjoyed for free up until this point, though there’s no hint on whether already released titles would be affected. Aoyama also let loose that gamers will be able to spend Wii Points for additional content for both disc games and WiiWare, Nintendo it seems want a piece of the DLC pie.
