While not being ready for the Ubidays event the team is adamant to dispel rumours of having to go back to the drawing board and posted a response to the community.
They say the gameplay for the upcoming instalment "has evolved ...and you won't be disappointed." Fresh SC:C goodies should be arriving within months.
They posted a closed thread on the official games forum entitled 'A letter from the devteam' and here's what it had to say:
Hi guys,
It's been a while since our last message but we're happy to say that development of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction is continuing well and the game is shaping up nicely. The team here is very dedicated and focused to making sure that Conviction turns into an amazing experience of Splinter Cell.
There are lots of rumours flying around right now about Conviction's development status and we can tell you that the gameplay has evolved, similar to what happens in every game's development process, and you won't be disappointed. We take your feedback from these forums very seriously and, although we can't respond to each and every thing people say, we do take these posts into consideration when making the game.
Unfortunately we're not able to make Ubidays this year but in the forthcoming months we'll be back in touch to begin showing you this new installment of the Splinter Cell series.
Splinter Cell Conviction Team
The previous game, Double Agent, already mixed up the action from its traditional roots as the player’s character Sam Fisher went under-cover to bring down a highly dangerous group from within. The player was able to choose various actions to accomplish or not which would alter their relationship either with the terrorists or the NSA.
Conviction looks to mix things up even more with the introduction of crowds, presumably offering a host of new gameplay mechanics to work with - like using the people to your advantage in Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed.
Splinter Cell: Convinction is to be released on PC, Xbox360 and DS.
