While speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Bethesda's Paul Oughton has revealed that the developer is hoping there new Elder Scrolls will arrive in two years.
He also explained that while the Nintendo Wii and DS have made great strides, Bethesda is still "not that interested" at the moment; Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is where it's at.
"At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010," said Oughton, publishing executive for Bethesda.
"At the moment we're not that interested in the Wii. We're going to stick to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We'll continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles," he continued.
The arrival of cooking and pet games on the Wii and DS has been an unexpected turn of events, and more importantly an unforeseen success story. "We've seen games selling in the past 18 months that we never thought we'd see. We wouldn't have thought that pet games and cooking games would have a viable market five years ago. No publisher would have taken those products on," said Oughton.
"But Nintendo bought new products in with vast amounts of marketing money to launch these into the minds of the consumer and made a market for them. Every other publisher then very quickly developed DS and Wii products and we're getting to saturation now."
A new Elder Scrolls game sounds good to me, though the wait till 2010 is a little bitter sweet. Fallout 3 has plenty to entertain with though - who doesn't like to launch heads from their respective owners shoulders? No one that's who.
