Film and TV man Jerry Bruckheimer is in cahoots with MTV Games, who beg him to take them ”more adventurous places “ than music games, and pull in more lady gamers.
Game/movie adaptations haven’t ”quite captured” an audiences imagination yet, ”but they will.” Bruckheimer thinks ”it will definitely happen” some day, whether it’s him or elsewhere.
”I hope that Jerry takes us to more adventurous places around storytelling in gaming,” said Van Toffler, the MTV Network president told GamesRadar.
”I see more of a connection to women coming to gaming as being a spark for Jerry Bruckheimer’s style of storytelling coming to gaming. Gaming is really starting to explode with women, particularly story-driven games like The Sims.”
“I think Jerry has managed to bring both men and women into his storytelling from Pirates of the Caribbean to National Treasure.”
”He does a great blend of action in storytelling and moving narrative forward,” continued Toffler.
As to when exactly the whole marriage of movie and videogames will eventually pay off some day, and not feel hollow and generally just crap, Bruckheimer… doesn’t know.
”I couldn’t tell you that,” replied female friendly Bruckheimer, when asked why they stink up the box office. ”They just haven’t quite captured the imagination of the audience yet, but they will. I think it will definitely happen, whether we do it or other people do it.”
He’s currently working on the Prince of Persia movie starring a topless Jake Gyllenhaal, so expect a significant female presence in the cinemas when it releases. The film has promise though, he went straight to the creator of the franchise for guidance, Jordan Mechner.
”I think to honor what gamers like about the game, you work with the people who actually created the game,” said Bruckheimer.
”So the individual who created the games for us worked with us on the screenplay and everything else, so he’s part of the process. He’s not going to do something that would hurt his fan base.” Let’s hope not anyway. Does Prince of Persia stand a chance of not sucking?
