So high is this pressure that the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII needs to pull off a success ”ten times” that of smaller titles, notes game producer Kitase.
This doesn’t mean they’ve compromised in ”game design or creativity” he says, this project has closely ”followed in the tradition” of the series. FFXIII is to release in Japan this year on PS3.
”… there is an unusual sort of pressure on Final Fantasy XIII,” Kitase told Edge magazine. ”I’d say we need this game to have ten times the success of these smaller titles.”
”But I don’t think that means we’ve compromised in terms of the game design or creativity in any way,” he continued. ”Indeed, the development of the game has very much followed in the tradition of the previous titles in the series, welcoming input from the full range of development staff.”
While the game is expected to release this year only on PS3, when it arrives in western markets in April 2010 it will launch across both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
