BioWare writer Mac Walters, lead on Mass Effect 2’s wordsmithing, has said the sequel is definitely the ‘Empire Strikes Back’ equivalent in Star Wars. Still ”very Mass Effect.”
It’ll handle all the same themes and elements as the original, just darker. There’s a lot ”more than meets the eye” with the sequel declares BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk.
”We have been saying it’s the dark middle act, so the tone is definitely darker,” lead writer Mac Walters told Kotaku at PAX.
”To draw comparisons: Much the same way you would say Empire Strikes Back is the dark middle act of Star Wars, it still felt like Star Wars. … So you’re still going to find a lot of very familiar themes, elements, and characters. It’s all going to feel very Mass Effect,” he added.
So far BioWare have shown off the much revamped and enhanced combat in Mass Effect 2, including the ability to cripple limbs on enemies. They’ve also shown fans the new interrupt system in dialogue as well as declare the long elevator rides a thing of the past.
”It’s fair to say there’s more than meets the eye to what you’ve seen,” says boss Zeschuk. ”I’m not going to get too much into specifics.” This is the first sequel since Baldur’s Gate 2 he’s worked on, and that was way back in 2000.
”It’s nice to be able to change and modify. We think it’s going to be a much better game than the first one,” continued co-founder Zeschuk. Little is known about the games actual content as EA and BioWare are yet to kick off the massive media campaign yet.
”We listened to our fans and realized some of the characters in the sidequests are really popular. Well, we’re bringing them back so you’ll sometimes see the return of some of the fan favorites,” revealed Walters. Do you have favourite side quester, videogamer?
