Posting on his blog, DICE's Gustav Halling has stated the upcoming game will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC but not by disc.
He affirmed it's "not a Internet browser game" and will be commercially available through Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and presumably the EA Store for PC. No EA confirmation yet.
Battlefield 1943 is "an all-new multiplayer game" and is set to release this summer, ditching traditional gameplay mechanics for replenishing health and ammo.
It will also sport just 24 players for each level as Halling cites "technical limitations" like bandwidth for console networks. "We have tweaked the map sizes to fit 24 players but still staying true to the original maps!"
As for the disc-less fate of the new Battlefield: "No, BF1943 is not a Internet browser game, it’s a download-only game on X360, PS3 & PC," blogged Halling.
