Microsoft ”don’t comment” on specifics when bans are involved, but say they continue ”to combat piracy” and keep Xbox Live free of it.
This major push was of course well timed what with Modern Warfare 2 now released, and that it’s a hugely anticipated title exploding in the sales charts.
”While we don’t comment on specific numbers, we have taken action against consoles that have been modified and were used to play pirated game discs,” said Microsoft in their official statement, reports Shacknews.
”In line with our commitment to combat piracy, and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community, we are banning these modded consoles from Xbox LIVE.”
The PlayStation 3 has been so far devoid of piracy as the console goes ‘unchipped’ and illegal copies of games are therefore rendered useless - much to Sony’s delight.
