According to sources, SEGA has pulled development funding to both Obsidian’s Aliens RPG and Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines projects.
Obsidian Entertainment has allegedly laid off 20 devs and their other SEGA project, Alpha Protocol, also hit with cut backs. The studio is ”on the ropes” reports Joystiq.
Money stopped flowing from SEGA to Gearbox, who kept developing the title but eventually stopped. Officially there’s ”no comment” from Obsidian Entertainment over the rumoured woe going on.
”We will have more news to share about our Aliens franchise games in the near future,” said a SEGA rep, dodging GameSpot’s questioning.
”Sega does not comment on rumors or speculation about its products… Please stay tuned for future correspondence regarding our products.”
SEGA recently announced major reductions in their expenses as they fight off big financial losses; around 560 are expected to be let go from the Japanese publisher.
