God of War: Chains of Olympus developer Ready At Dawn has come out against other development engines, criticizing them as PC engines ”shoe-horned into consoles”.
They’re so sick of it that they’ve gone and made a total console dev platform ”that simply works,” designed to cater to other studios ”tired” of handling ”middleware from multiple vendors.”
”We are building something for developers who are tired of the challenges of PC engines shoe-horned into consoles, or trying to stitch together layers upon layers of middleware from multiple vendors,” said the California based developer, not pointing the finger directly.
”Our solution will be a complete game development platform that simply works,” Didier Malenfant, Ready At Dawn president. The engine is said to include everything you need to put a game together, it’s wholly console-centric with no additional licensing hang-ups.
The Ready At Dawn Engine can handle game development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP. I don’t think Epic and their Unreal Engine or Crytek and their CryEngine has anything to worry about just yet, but maybe they will?
