Vivendi Games are sadly no longer with us, but the good news is that developer Rebellion snapped up a load of IPs that Activision didn’t want to take on board.
Most recently the studio also put some classic goodness on GOG.com, namely Ground Control and Evil Genius, which Rebellion also has future plans for. What and when, not decided.
Evil Genius was bought from the defunct Elixir Studios ”a long time ago” says Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. Currently the studio is busy working on a new Aliens Vs Predator game for SEGA. They also acquired Ground Control, Empire Earth, and Lords of the Realm/Lords of Magic.
”Yes, we have complete ownership of the IP from the past and going forwards, so yes we’re putting our plans together for new titles in each series,” he told BigDownload.
”Exactly what and when is currently up for discussion, as we’re super busy on Aliens vs Predator for Sega and Rogue Warrior for Bethesda.” That’s right, while we may never get a Dungeon Keeper 3 from EA, we could at least get an Evil Genius 2 from Rebellion!
”We are always on the look out for interesting and expandable IP. We’re happy to generate it internally as we did with Sniper Elite for example, or to take a back catalogue of ideas and refresh them,” continued studio boss Kingsley.
”The rise of digital distribution is an exciting area for us and makes developing a smaller high quality game more possible for a developer working on their own.”
