Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has said that the upcoming new MMO project from Blizzard developers will be more broadly appealing, and hints at Battle.net features.
Already Blizz have confirmed numerous times that this isn't some World of Warcraft clone, and is not based on an existing franchise. Battle.net may incorporate "cash play and prize play".
"What we've announced at Blizzard is that we have StarCraft coming, Diablo has been in production…and a new, unannounced MMO that has a little more broad appeal," said Kotick at the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference in San Francisco, reports GameSpot.
The Acti Blizz big boss also mentions something on Battle.net. "As we start to add cash play and prize play and better rewards and recognition systems that come through the Internet, you will start to see audiences expand even further," he hinted.
This led to the question of whether the new online network would give out cash prizes directly, which prompted a Blizz rep to intervene: "Tournament play and e-sports have been part of the Battle.net experience for years," they said, referring to competitions and tournaments starting online and ending at BlizzCon. They wouldn't comment beyond that.
Blizzard's fan base has all eyes on StarCraft II and Diablo III right now, but it would be great if they decided to lift the veil of secrecy on this new MMO project...
