Todd Hollenshead, president of id Software, has confirmed they’re thinking of splitting Rage across two DVDs and even raises the question of a separate multiplayer disc.
Having to swap discs in multiplayer, ”that’s fail.” The studio is unsure if Rage will even make it onto just two discs, it could reach a third. They’ll ”probably have two DVDs” at the least.
This issue is of course for the Xbox 360 version of the game, with the PS3 enjoying a much higher capacity Blu-ray disc, and PC having all its Rage assets installed to the hard drive.
”We’ll probably have two DVDs for sure, and then the question is, will multiplayer be on a separate disc or not?” said Hollenshead, reports OXM.
”It makes no sense for a player to swap that disc in multiplayer, right? That’s fail. They have to keep one disc in during multiplayer, can you just put all the multiplayer content on one DVD?”
Has Microsoft’s decision to get the Xbox 360 out the door with just standard DVD started to haunt the platform? PlayStation 3 took so long because Sony wanted Blu-ray functionality.
