Among the string of casualties in Microsoft’s bid to cut the global workforce is the general manager for GWL, Chris Early.
Games for Windows Live hasn’t been a popular initiative among PC gamers and caused uproar when it was charging for online play. The group has taken a beating with perhaps more on the way.
VentureBeat report that Chris Early’s time with Games for Windows Live ”has come to a close,” according to a Microsoft email. So far around 1,500 jobs have been snipped from the Microsoft payroll, with an additional 5,000 more to come over the next 18 months.
Much like the service available on Xbox 360, Games for Windows Live linked all games played through your account and let you earn achievement points. It also served as a way of trying to stop illegal copies of games getting a hold of updates and patches.
There’s likely to be more bad news for the PC group and Microsoft might just cut its losses altogether and shutdown the brand.
