The teams over at id Software are hard at work on their new idTech 5 graphics engine which powers two upcoming projects, Rage and the next Doom.
Rage is being published by EA but Carmack says they're in no hurry to stick Doom 4 with a publisher yet. They'd like to measure how well EA is at "holding up their side of the bargain."
"We're taking Doom like we did with Rage, quite a way on our internal development funds," John Carmack tells Joystiq. "It winds up getting us a better deal with the publishers who sign it but we do expect to be signing Doom deals later this year."
This is a make it or break it moment for the EA Partners program because if they mess up with Rage then id Software will just skip on to the next big house selling their Doom cookies. So far the track record for EA releasing third-party titles is very good so it’s pretty much a done deal.
Got some spare cash, a worldwide distribution chain and a 'can do' attitude? Why not sign the next Doom then?
