David Brickley of developer Rebellion, the studio behind upcoming Aliens Vs Predator, has admitted there is a rivalry between them and Aliens: Colonial Marines developer Gearbox.
They "all want to produce" the best possible game, and you've got to "keep pace" with others. There's been some "gentle ribbing" at trade shows, and "drunken ideas" exchanged.
"In a healthy sense yeah, I think so," Brickley told CVG, when asked if they're in rivalry.
"I think if we all want to produce the best possible game at the end of the day you've got to use your own imagination but keep pace with what other people are doing. We're gamers as well and want as many good games as we can get in our hands."
"There's been some high-level contact at trade shows, stuff like that," he explained. "Gentle ribbing and the trading of drunken ideas but nothing co-operative in that sense."
Both Aliens Vs Predator and Aliens: Colonial Marines occupy the first-person shooter and horror genre, with them also of course sharing the same IP universe and publisher, Sega.
"There's no point in being direct competition in that sense," said Brickley, referring to the project similarities. Colonial Marines is "a game that's focused very much on the USCN so for that reason alone we've taken it in all sorts of different directions."
Aliens Vs Predator is being released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in Q1 2010, while Aliens: Colonial Marine is being released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC sometime in 2010. Fight!
