Dorian Bloch of Chart Track will open the floodgates to digital PC sales in the UK. That means from next year, all digital sales will be tabulated and included with retail figures.
The announcement was made yesterday at the London Games Conference. With digital sales included the PC market will "stop contracting" and show growth once more. Hooray!
Bloch notes that a "whole new set of rules" are needed to include these digital sales. "The PC market isn't dying, it's moved on," he added. Big name publishers are all committed to submitting their data to Chart Track starting next year.
Individual developers aren't included as of yet. "To go direct to every developer or publisher and get their individual data would be one hell of an issue."
Once the digital sales are combined with traditional retail numbers, "the PC market will stop contracting and start to grow again," said Bloch. It's about time this happened, frankly.
