Sony has just let it slip, once pushed mind you, that the PlayStation 3 console has been on a diet when it comes to manufacturing them - it now costs 70 percent less to make.
It’s about that percentile, ”roughly speaking” revealed Sony corporate CEO Nobuyuki Oneda during an investor call. So, erm, how about a price cut then? Cue rolling tumble weed on stage.
”The cost reduction since we introduced the PS3 is very substantial and this is on schedule,” said the Sony big wig, Oneda-san.
”We don’t disclose how much of the PS3, specifically the cost deduction was achieved during the past two years. But that is on schedule.” Obviously not good enough a response…
Pushed on the matter, as you would expect, Oneda-san revealed it’s dropped ”about 70 percent, roughly speaking”. It would seem a price cut isn’t out of the question after all.
