We’d have gotten a Fight Night release one year, followed by an MMA the next. However given the huge flop launch EA is forced to re-strategise the IP.
”There is definitely going to be an EA Sports MMA 2,” EA Sports’ Jeff Ecker declared. Fight Night Champion is due in 2011 and the next MMA should have been coming in 2012. When the sequel effort will actually make it out the door now is anyone’s guess.
”EA’s recently released MMA appears to be more or less DOA at retail, while UFC recently announced an extension of its license with THQ, likely putting an end to EA’s efforts to expand into the mixed martial arts genre,” said analyst Doug Creutz.
EA Sports MMA entered the UK all formats chart at 23, although the title has managed a good 79 and 77 metacritic score on Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively. EA have a long way to go to topple THQ’s UFC Undisputed franchise.
