EA crowned themselves the number 1 publisher for next-gen consoles with 22% share. Intake was $539m for the 3 months ending June 30th.
Year-on-year revenue for the quarter was down but EA cited ”a reduced title slate” as the cause behind it. Just 6 major releases landed between April and June this year compared to 10 in 2009 for the same period. Digital revenue was $188m.
It all added up to a $96m profit, which is great compared to a $234 million loss last time. ”We had a solid first quarter, exceeding expectations both top and bottom line,” said EA CEO John Riccitiello.
”Top quality titles like 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, innovative digital offerings for titles like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Scrabble on the Apple iPad are driving the business.” EA sold 3 of the 15 top selling games for the quarter.
Nintendo Wii has EA unhappy though with sales having fallen year-on-year; from $161m to just $40m in 2010. That’s a nasty 75% drop for EA bean counters. Overall the publisher is looking healthy and plan on becoming the FPS King of big nuts again.
