…or just annoy us. Degradable demos have been patented by SCEA, which would give us full titles to sample but with gameplay ‘shrinking’.
Think of it this way: You start an inFamous degradable demo and have everything you want from the full retail game all free, except after six hours you suddenly find a mission or two has ‘up and disappeared’ or your powers have been weakened.
The same principle can be theoretically applied to any game, like a racer with tracks and cars disappearing as the hours go by or even sound and visuals lowering in quality.
The idea itself sounds like it could work but these don’t then really give a true demo anymore of a title, instead they’re teasing trial samplers. You fiend Sony!
Having weapons or other gear and even characters removed is also in the cards for these special ‘degradable demos’. This allows these demos to be distributed on physical media, with gamers given the option then of purchasing an unlock key.
Genius, or madness?
